The KiWiGen Project : A new concept in wind power generation.

The human imagination is the most powerful and inexhaustible energy source
on the planet. The objective of the project is to design, implement and test an entirely new concept for the production of electrical energy, on a scale comparable to that of the present day conventional multi-gigawatt power plants. The energy source for the project is the high altitude wind of the troposphere.
The method of channelling this source makes use of arrays of large tethered kites whose movements are controlled electronically, by highly sophisticated sensors and proprietary software. The kites are anchored to a revolving structure on a vertical axis, analogous to a gigantic merry-go-round, which conveys the mechanical energy thus generated to the alternators and turbines of a classical power-plant, incorporated within the structure itself. The present project is the object of six years of previous research and development and five European patents. The work needed to demonstrate the validity of the hypothesis and construct the actual prototypes is articulated in three phases.

Local resident Gomberg earns world kite honor.

Local resident David Gomberg was recently inducted into the World Kite Museum Hall of Fame in Long Beach, Wash.
This alcove honors kite makers and inventors, kite promoters and kite entrepreneurs.
Plaques stating each individuals contribution and representative miniature kites describe each inductee.
Citing Gomberg's three-time receipt of the Checkeley Award for the most significant contribution to the kite industry, his eight-year tenure as president of the American Kitefliers Association, and his attendance at 250 international kite festivals.
A Somerset explorer left Britain on Friday for a world's first expedition across the North Atlantic.

Dom Mee has said the 3,500 mile attempt will be his hardest challenge yet. The craft has been entirely produced in the South West, using kites designed in the United States. It is equipped with the latest satellite communication and navigational tools. With kites measuring up to 10 square metres (108 sq ft) the boat will reach a maximum speed of eight knots.
His vessel 'Little Murka' is 14 feet long and will have to endure hurricane force winds and mountainous seas. The vessel has 60 days worth of supplies for the trip and Dom is taking on this epic voyage alone and totally unsupported.

You can follow the progress of the expedition with constant updates and a live satellite positioning map right here on this site (just click the button above) so keep coming back and share this unique experience :

Day kite flying crippled 96 birds in Delhi.

Independence Day was a nightmare for birds in Old Delhi, with close to 100 of them injured by the threads of kites being flown by hundreds of people that day.
"People should use simple threads without any glass coating, which will be sufficient to bring down the number of casualties." the doctor said.
