Mardi 4 et mercredi 5 mai 2004 : "Otako-age" à Zama (Préfecture de Kanagawa - sud-est du Japon). C'est l'envol de cerfs-volants, dont deux géants de plus de 800 Kg, près du pont Zakaebashi. Mercredi 5 mai, au matin, un cerf-volant géant pesant près d'une tonne s'est écrasé lorsqu'un vent violent a cassé son armature, blessant huit personnes parmi les spectateurs de ce festival de cerf-volant. Ce cerf-volant, mesurant 12.9 mètres de haut et 13.3 mètres de large, avait pourtant eu sur sa surface en papier des parties renforcées pour résister à des conditions de vent assez fort. Environ 40 à 50 personnes tiraient la corde attachée au cerf-volant pour le faire décoller, et quand il a atteint une altitude d'environ 30 mètres, son armature en bambou s'est brisée. Weather permitting, kites will be flown from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, a huge kite weighing around 1 ton fell from the sky after strong wind broke its frame Tuesday morning in Zama, Kanagawa Prefecture, injuring eight people who were among visitors to a kite festival, police said. The kite, measuring about 12.9 meters in height and 13.3 meters in width, had parts of its paper surface reinforced to withstand windy conditions, the police said. About 40 to 50 people were pulling the rope attached to the kite to send it skyward, and when it reached about 30 meters into the air, parts of its bamboo frame broke, they said.
